Steel square bar is a widely used long steel product, which can be obtained from different types of steel such as S235, C20, C35, C45. The production method allows dividing these products into two types: cold drawn (calibrated) and hot rolled. The former received this name due to the fact that it is produced by cold rolling and fully complies with the standard.
The assortment for hot-rolled steel bars is regulated by EN 10059.
This standard applies to hot-rolled steel bars of square cross-section with side dimensions from 6 to 200 mm inclusive. The standard allows the manufacture of bars larger than 200 mm by agreement with the manufacturer. To obtain high-quality products, it is sufficient to use low-alloy or carbon steel.
In terms of precision, the rolled products are divided into high precision (with the possibility of calibration up to 5 mm) and normal precision. Square bars are produced in straight lengths. The standard allows manufacturing bars with a square side up to 14 mm inclusive in coils.
Square bars are manufactured in:
- fixed lengths
- multiples of fixed lengths
- random lengths.
Bars are manufactured in lengths:
- from 2 to 12 m - from carbon steel of ordinary quality and low-alloy steel;
- from 2 to 6 m - from quality carbon and alloy steel;
- from 1.5 to 6 m - from high-alloy steel.

In production, the quality class of the metal square is determined by the state of curvature: if it does not exceed 0.5%, then the product belongs to the first class, and for the second class, the length and curvature indicators are higher than for the first.
The cross-section of the square is selected according to the customer's requirements, as well as the degree of protection (presence of anti-corrosion coating). It implies a clear understanding of what sizes and shapes of rolled metal are best used in a specific case - if the standard range does not fit, you can order products outside the standards. The correct geometry of metal squares allows them to be conveniently transported, and the low price justifies the use of products in different areas.
