Production of steel round bar
Depending on the production method, there are hot-rolled and cold-rolled (cold-drawn) steel rounds. Hot-rolled is manufactured and used more often, as it can be produced in large batches. The essence of the hot rolling process is the passage of a pre-heated billet (temperature about 1000°C) through a rolling mill, where the distance between the rolls gradually decreases. Thus, a bar of the required diameter is obtained at the outlet.
Cold rolling is used in cases where it is necessary to obtain metal rolling with the most precise surface (calibrated profile). In this case, a hot-rolled bar is used as a billet, subsequently subjected to additional processing (stamping, forging, etc.).
In many cases, metal rolling is subjected to special heat treatment to give it increased mechanical characteristics. The most common types of heat treatment are quenching, annealing, tempering, aging, and normalization. As a result, it is possible to obtain more durable, wear-resistant, plastic, etc. steel.
Technical characteristics of round metal rolling
Requirements for this type of metal rolling are regulated by European standards. The main one is EN 10060 (closest analogue to GOST 2590-2006 "Hot-rolled steel round bars"), which regulates the dimensions and tolerances of hot-rolled steel rounds. In addition, the production and assortment of calibrated steel rounds are regulated by EN 10278 (closest analogue to GOST 7417-75 "Calibrated round steel"). This standard applies to cold-rolled and cold-drawn steel.
According to these documents, round bars can have a diameter from 5 mm to 70 mm. Large diameters are produced according to specifications and agreements between the customer and the manufacturer. At the same time, rolled products with a diameter of 5 - 9 mm are released in coils, more than 9 mm – in bars of measured and unmeasured length (from 1 to 12 m, depending on the steel grade).

Restored refers to used rounds that have undergone restoration procedures, such as cleaning, grinding, etc. Most often, such used metal rolling was used in metal structures, supports, etc., which were later dismantled.
Also, sometimes "lying" (in quotation marks) profile is distinguished – this is metal rolling not of warehouse storage, which for one reason or another was not used (for example, purchased and delivered to the construction site, but subsequently not useful).
