Hot-rolled steel channel is a type of long, shaped metal product with a U-shaped cross-section. This metal element is used in the construction of frames, partitions, and other structures built according to a bar scheme. The geometric characteristics of the channel section are determined by its number, which corresponds to the height of the channel web (in centimeters). The range includes channels from No. 5 to No. 40 with sloped inner flange edges and without. Sloped inner flange edges make design more difficult. The assortment also includes channels with parallel flange edges, the section of which has better calculated characteristics. Such channels are more constructive, as parallel edges simplify bolt connections to the flanges. Channels are used in powerful bar structures (bridges, long-span trusses, etc.), as well as in columns, braces, and roof purlins.

Hot-rolled channels (according to EN 10279 / GOST 8240-97)
The assortment for hot-rolled channels is regulated by EN 10279 (GOST 8240-97). This standard establishes the range of hot-rolled steel channels for general and special purposes with a height of 50 to 400 mm and a flange width of 32 to 115 mm. They are manufactured in lengths from 2 to 12 m. It is allowed to manufacture channels longer than 12 m by agreement between the consumer and the manufacturer.

Channel is obtained as a result of melting ferrous metals or alloyed steel. Its length by standard is within 2-12 m, but by special order, longer channels can also be manufactured. The advantage of the product is its stiffness and stability, ensuring safe operation and reinforcement of structures. Suitable geometric features allow using the channel for different purposes. The production of each type of channel is strictly established due to the fact that it fully meets the requirements of GOST and EN standards. Forming of products occurs either by rolling or bending. The purpose of the channel can be divided based on the material taken for the base, whether it is structural, low-alloy, or carbon steel. Depending on the direction of the flanges, unequal and equal, as well as bent and hot-rolled are distinguished. According to the length indicator, channels are classified separately: multiple, measured, and unmeasured. The quality of the channel is directly related to its cost, which also includes other quantitative factors (size, series number, flange arrangement). The most popular types are channel numbers 10, 14, 20.
Channel 10 is often found in the construction sector, as well as in separate areas of industry and machine building. Due to its high mechanical properties, it can be used as a supporting support. For rigid reinforcement of walls, professionals recommend choosing channel 14 – it can provide additional stiffness and the required strength to the entire structure. And channel 20 will not be redundant in all kinds of floors, as well as for strengthening supports and load-bearing elements. UTMK company can offer delivery across Europe, Poland, Bulgaria and the whole EU.
