The range for rectangular hollow sections (RHS) is regulated by EN 10219-2/EN 10210-2 (GOST 8645-68). According to these standards, seamless cold-drawn, hot-rolled, and electric-welded hollow sections are produced. Parameters for this type of rolled metal: length – 15-230 mm, wall thickness 1-20 mm.

Classification of Hollow Sections by Purpose

General-purpose hollow sections. Manufactured from hot-rolled steel strip in a thickness range of 1-5 mm. Steel grades S235JR (St1sp – St3sp/ps) are used in the production cycle. Hollow sections (rectangular and square) for general use are employed in various metal structures for indoor and outdoor applications. This product is characterized by strict tolerances for the surface finish quality.

Flat-oval hollow sections (also known as "arch profiles"). These are complex sections, the production technology of which is identical to standard hollow section manufacturing. The demand for this type of profile is driven by improved qualitative characteristics.

Furniture steel hollow sections. This type of product is made from cold-rolled strip (steel grades DC01/S235 (St1sp/ps and St08sp/ps)), in a thickness range from 0,8 to 1,5 mm with possible supplements to technical specifications for geometry and surface quality). Metal structures made from thin-walled sections are lightweight and do not carry significant loads, making them highly sought after for various furniture production projects. Furniture profiles have small dimensions: rectangular sections range from 20x10 to 40x25 mm; square sections from 10x10 to 30x30 mm, respectively.

Construction hollow sections. This type of rolled metal is produced in accordance with the requirements of EN 10219 (GOST 30245-2003). The sphere of application includes various construction metal structures (columns, trusses, building frames, floor beams, etc.). Hollow sections of this type are often used in the construction of pre-engineered buildings and structures (shopping centers, warehouses, industrial workshops, hangars, gas stations, car services, etc.). Construction sections are produced in thicknesses of 4-12 mm. Hot-rolled steel S235/S275 (St5sp/ps and St3sp/ps) according to GOST 14637-89 is used in their production. Low-alloy steel S355J2 (09G2S) with improved strength properties (GOST 19281-89) can also be used.
