Advantages of Galvanised Sheet
- Superior Corrosion Resistance: The zinc coating provides robust "sacrificial" protection. It corrodes first, protecting the base steel from rust, even at cut edges or scratches.
- Excellent Formability: Grades like DX51D are engineered to be bent, pressed, and drawn into complex shapes without the zinc flaking or cracking. This is crucial for manufacturing and custom fabrication.
- High Strength-to-Weight Ratio: Galvanised sheet offers significant structural integrity while remaining relatively lightweight, making it easy to handle and install for roofing or cladding.
- Aesthetic & Paintable Surface: The sheet can be used with its classic spangled finish or supplied with a minimised spangle, which provides a perfect, smooth base for painting or powder coating.
Areas of Application
- Construction (Compliance with Eurocodes, EN 1090): Manufacturing of trapezoidal profiles, roofing sheets, sandwich panels, purlins, and HVAC ductwork.
- Automotive and Manufacturing: Production of body parts, chassis components (in compliance with IATF standards), electrical casings, and white goods (appliances).
- SME & DIY Projects: Ideal for practical uses like trailer fabrication, workshop storage, roofing for sheds, fencing, custom brackets, and enclosures.
- General Fabrication: Brackets, flashing, and light structural components.

How fast does galvanised metal rust?
It depends on the coating thickness and the environment. A quality G90/Z275 (~20 µm) coating can last 50-100 years in a mild rural or urban setting. In aggressive industrial or coastal (salt spray) environments, this is reduced to 20-30 years.
What damages galvanised metal?
The main enemies are strong acids and alkalis (e.g., wet cement). Galvanised steel will also corrode very quickly if it contacts copper (galvanic corrosion). Prolonged wet storage without air circulation can also cause "white rust" (zinc oxide).
What is the most durable roofing material?
The absolute leaders are natural slate and copper (100-200 years). Among metal roofs, galvanised steel with a high-quality polymer coating (like PVDF or Pural) is one of the best solutions, designed to last 30-50+ years.
Can galvanised sheet be bent?
Yes, it is designed for it. Steel grades like DX51D ('D' for Drawing) are made specifically for bending and profiling. The flexible zinc coating bends with the steel without cracking or flaking, allowing for the production of flashing, profiles, and complex parts.
