Use of Hardox wear-resistant steels in the production of conveyor system components

The bottoms and side walls of conveyors are subjected to intense abrasive wear and high dynamic loads. The use of high-strength Swedish Hardox steel (SSAB) in these components significantly increases the maintenance intervals of the equipment compared to structural steels such as St3 or 09G2S.

Technical advantages and characteristics: Wear resistance: Due to uniform hardening (for example, up to 400–500 HBW for Hardox 400 and 450 grades), the material successfully resists wear from contact with rocks, crushed stone and industrial waste. Impact resistance: Unlike conventional high-hardness steels, Hardox maintains ductility at sub-zero temperatures, preventing cracks and chipping when coarse-grained material falls onto the conveyor bottom. Weight reduction: The high yield strength (0.2 sigma) allows the use of thinner sheets without compromising strength, reducing stress on the drive units and the metal structure of the conveyor. Chemical and thermal stability: The steel maintains its performance characteristics in aggressive environments and moderate thermal loads typical of mining, processing and mineral processing plants. Applications:

Hardox-based solutions are recommended for main, belt and drag conveyors handling highly abrasive materials in the mining, cement and scrap metal processing industries.
