The range of steel forgings is quite extensive. They may differ in their profile, dimensions, material of manufacture, surface quality, heat treatment, etc. In turn, the characteristics of forged metal products are determined by its applications, so the requirements for forgings can be very different.
In general, the technical requirements for the production and range of forgings are regulated by several established state standards. Here is a list of the main documents currently in force in Ukraine:
- GOST 8479-70 "Forgings from structural carbon and alloy steel". This standard describes general purpose forgings up to 800 mm in diameter made from carbon, low alloy and alloy steel.
- GOST 25054-81 "Forgings from corrosion-resistant steels and alloys". This document regulates the production, assortment and technical characteristics of stainless steel forgings.
- GOST 7829-70 "Carbon and alloy steel forgings made by hammer forging". This document describes general purpose forgings made using hammer and press forging methods.
- GOST 7505-89 "Stamped steel forgings". The standard was developed to regulate the requirements for forgings made by hot forging.
In addition, individual types of forged metal products with specific characteristics may also be regulated by industry standards and regulations. We are talking mainly about non-standard or single products. The production and characteristics of such forgings are necessarily negotiated between the manufacturer and the customer.
