The forging itself is an intermediate rough workpiece obtained by one of the forging methods and intended for further processing in order to obtain a finished product. In turn, forgings are produced from primary billets, which are processed on forging or stamping units (presses, hammers, etc.) p>
There are two main principles by which a blank for forging is selected:
- Minimum material consumption during forging and subsequent machining.
- Minimum labor costs and simplification of the technological process of manufacturing the part.
It is possible to fulfill both of these principles only if the primary workpiece maximally matches the dimensions and shape of the required part. If this condition is met, chip costs during machining will be minimized, and the technological process itself will be as simple and inexpensive as possible. .
An obvious and important selection criterion is the forging material (steel grade). The characteristics of the finished product depend on the correctness of its selection.
