Round rolled metal – universal type of rolled metal used in almost all industries and construction. It comes in various diameters (from 5 to 270 mm) and can be made from a wide variety of steel grades. It is thanks to this assortment that steel circle found application in a variety of areas. In addition, the growth in demand for it is also facilitated by the fact that it is quite possible to obtain products of complex configuration from a round profile – for example, by applying metal-roll bending methods to it.
Technological features of wheel bending
Bending of round steel is carried out on a special automatic bending machine equipped with steel shafts and a rotating disk. The bar to be bent is first fixed by the support and center rolls and then bent by the movable roll.
You can bend both cold and heated workpieces. Most often, cold bending is used for a steel circle of small diameter (up to 50 mm). If it is required to bend a profile with a diameter of up to 270 mm, it is preheated to avoid the formation of cracks, draws, breaks and disturbances in the steel structure.
The main advantages of bending a steel circle on an automatic machine – high speed and accuracy of the process (error not more than 0.5 degrees). In addition, the cost of this procedure is relatively low.
Of course, on such a machine it is impossible to bend a product of any configuration, this may require additional metalworking. However, modern bending machines allow you to bend the workpiece even at an angle of 180 °, as well as make a circle out of it, so in many cases their use is quite justified.
