The round profile is made mainly by hot rolling. After the workpiece acquires the required diameter, it cools down, and then it is cut into bars. Steel circle, the diameter of which exceeds 9 mm, is supplied in bars of measured and random lengths from 1 to 12 m. The cutting process is carried out on special equipment &ndash ; band saws.
Technological features of cutting
Band saws got their name from the main working element – band saw. It is a continuous strip with teeth of various shapes and can be made from different grades of steel. Band saws made of carbon steel, as well as bimetallic products (made of two metals), have received wide application. In addition, saws with carbide tips based on molybdenum, cobalt, tungsten and other metals are used for cutting especially hard steel grades.
The bandsaw is fixed to the machine with rotating pulleys. Depending on the location of the canvas, units of cantilever, vertical and horizontal types are distinguished. The cut can be carried out both at right angles and at an angle.
The advantages of cutting a steel circle on a band saw unit include:
- minimum loss of material – the thickness of the cut does not exceed 1.5 mm;
- no deformation of the cut surface, preservation of the properties and structure of steel;
- the ability to cut circles and forgings of large diameter – up to 1600 mm;
- high cutting speed;
- low price.
Thus cutting the steel circle – this is a fairly quick and relatively inexpensive procedure that allows the buyer to purchase exactly the amount of rental that he needs, without overpaying for the excess.
